Kahn&Selesnick is a duo formed by American artist Nicholas Kahn and British artist Richard Selesnick who have been working together since the early 1980s. They are self-proclaimed absurdists, inspired by Dada, surrealism, and Samuel Beckett’s oeuvre. Best known for their discovered, invented, and forgotten histories set in the past or future, Kahn&Selesnick work primarily with color or black and white photography, and installation art. Their documentary-style, panoramic, and round or square photographs combine absurdity, fantasy and fiction put at the service of fictive anthropological studies. Throughout their career, they have worked with a range of very different settings, costumes, and props, sometimes constructed with unusual materials like bread, fur and honey.
