The photograph depicts a broken statue of Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom. Inside the fracture is an egg, creating a striking contrast between the inert stone and a biological symbol of life.
The broken statue symbolizes the obsolescence of Western culture, its past arrogance, and a certain loss of “common sense.”
The presence of the egg suggests that the destruction of ancient cultural heritage is necessary to allow for a new beginning and the fertility of a better world.
Typical of Gligorov's style, the work uses a surreal and provocative image to force the viewer to reflect on existence and social norms.
