Eckart HAHN

Big Five, 2016. Private collection

German artist Eckart Hahn works mainly with oil or acrylics on canvas. His ‘broken realism’- in his own words - results in paintings at the same time lifelike and improbable. By seducing with aesthetically compelling compositions, he distracts the viewer’s gaze from his constant playing between opposite polarities and disturbing associations of objects and spaces. Hahn’s universe, populated by intriguing figures very often inspired by literature, combines a technically perfect realism with collage-like techniques in debt with surrealism. Ultimately, his work reflects those questions and contradictions of human life that will remain inevitably unanswered.
