Till FREIWALD

Peruvian artist Till Freiwald is best known for his large-scale pastel drawings and watercolor paintings. Freiwald, who at the beginning of his career focused on abstract paintings, said that a certain point he felt something was missing. ‘’I longed for the encounter with myself, so I turned to painting people.’’ His famous portraits always begin with a direct encounter with an individual. Starting from there, Freiwald makes small-scale sketches from a photograph, which he later turns into monumental watercolors with the sole support of his memory. More recently, his subjects include also views of cities and neighborhoods.
