Jing Zhe (Awakening from Hibernation), 2006
Meiyu (Rainy Season), 2006
‘Jing Zhe’ or ‘awakening from hibernation’ is a day in the traditional Chinese calendar and ‘Meiyu’ is the term used in Jiangnan, Southern China, for the June rainy season. I plan to shoot a series of films about the weather in different times of the year: Grain Rain, Slight Heat, White Dew and others. The real concern in my work is to show one’s growth in different stages and conditions.
‘Awakening from Hibernation’ tells the story about a man who symbolizes today’s intellectual one who is not satisfied with his environment, so makes his own decision. The flowers hanging from the tree symbolize the hope which represents his inner world.
‘Rainy Season’ describes the physiological and psychological confusion of a young girl entering puberty.
